On Monday, June 3rd, 2019 I checked into the Graduate Tempe for an 8-night stay. The initial check in process was a bit bumpy as the night attendant had a hard time looking up my account. But after a few minutes everything was sorted out. One thing I noticed immediately was that their restaurant “The Normal” closes at 9pm and was already almost 11. Those hours are a bit disappointing. The room I was assigned had a single king bed, though the room was small it was clean and had a cute quaint balcony with a southward view.
The bed itself was a bit firm but I don’t mind that at all. The pillows had a good deal of fluff. Same for the restroom, it was very clean, had all the towels that are expected, had extra toilet paper. The downside is that instead of little bottles of shampoo and little bar soaps, the show had three pump dispensers, one for body wash which was god awful and hard to wash off, one for shampoo which had a nice texture and peppermint smell, and one for conditioner which never worked the entire time.
Now for the parking situation. So it turns out there is a $7.00 a day charge to park in their parking lot. I am personally infuriated about this because we are already paying $80 plus per night for a room in the hotel the least they can do is provide free parking.
From My Yelp Review:
My partner and I stayed at the Graduate Tempe from June 3 – 11th 2019, throughout our stay we have encountered several shortfalls with this Hotel. The first shortfall is our original room 503 had two issues, one was our sink stopper not functioning properly and the second being that the room had erratic water pressure issues. On this matter the Hotel staff promptly moved us to room 101 that did not experience any of these issues.
The pool was an area of concern, the gates were fitted with latches and the card readers were disabled so effectively anyone can go into the pool area. On multiple occasions when my partner and I were there, there were people presumably from ASU entering the pool from the parking lot on the west side of the building. On the east side of the pool the card reader was similarly disabled, and a latch was also on that gate. This is not only a disservice to your customers who pay to stay per night but it also a threat to the safety of your customers, anybody dangerous or otherwise can enter the pool area.
Please note that the gate on the east side of the building is broken and has no functional lock on it.
The restaurant “The Normal” has very poor customer service, we visited The Normal, it was in the afternoon around 4:30pm, there weren’t many people in the restaurant. We noticed that there was at least one table that hadn’t been bussed and when we sat at a table it took about 5 minutes to get a menu. When we got the menu our server (who I believe was also the bar tender) looked annoyed when we only water to start off with. That’s when we decided to move on and go somewhere else to eat.
There is also no on site laundry at this hotel.
